Sean Diddy Combs Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

Good afternoon, I’m with Chitta Majhi in New York, and we’re coming back on the air because the judge has just sentenced Sean Diddy Combs to four years in prison. He was found guilty over the summer on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in connection with his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and another woman. However, he was acquitted of more serious charges that could have sent him to prison for life.

Let’s get right to our chief investigative correspondent, Aaron, who has been following this trial from the beginning. He joins us from outside the courthouse in Lower Manhattan.

Inside the Courtroom: Judge’s Verdict and Reactions

Aaron reports that this was a long sentencing hearing where Sean Diddy Combs, once larger than life, stood at the defense table begging for mercy. He told the judge that he was a changed man and apologized for his behavior.

However, his request for leniency and time served was rejected by Judge Haroon Subramanian, who said it was insufficient to send the message that violence against women must be met with real accountability. Therefore, the judge sentenced Sean Diddy Combs to four years in prison.

While the sentence was shorter than the 11 years federal prosecutors requested, the judge said it was the right balance to ensure justice was served. Prosecutors reminded the court that Sean Diddy Combs has a history of violence and abuse, referring to a 2016 hotel security video showing him attacking Cassie Ventura.

Combs acknowledged the video, apologized to Ventura, and expressed remorse. The judge emphasized that four years was an appropriate sentence to send a message to both Combs and victims of domestic violence — that their voices will be taken seriously.

Legal Experts Weigh In

ABC News legal contributor Brian Buckmire explained that the defense was hoping for 14 months and credit for time served, while prosecutors sought 11 years.

“This was not what I expected,” Buckmire said. “The probation report suggested anywhere from 70 to 87 months, much higher than the 50 months that the judge actually gave.”

He further broke down the math: “In the federal system, with a 50-month sentence, you only serve about 85% of it. That’s roughly 42 months. And since Sean Diddy Combs has already spent 13 months in the MDC jail in Brooklyn, you subtract that, leaving about two to three years to serve.”

Buckmire concluded that although it’s a tough day for Combs and his defense team, it’s ultimately a partial win, given the reduced sentence.

Emotional Testimonies and Family Support

Criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor Bernardo Villa noted that the courtroom also saw emotional testimony from Combs’ children and supporters. They spoke about his role as a father and his contributions to the community.

Today was definitely Judgment Day for Sean Diddy Combs,” Villa said. “The judge acknowledged Combs’ good work and family values but stated that it does not erase what he heard and saw during this eight-week trial.

According to the testimony, the judge recalled how Combs manipulated and abused Cassie Ventura and another woman, sometimes under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The judge emphasized that victims like Jade and Cassie must be accounted for, and someone must speak for them. Therefore, he rejected the 14-month recommendation from the defense and instead handed down 50 months — four years and two months — as a message of accountability and justice.

Conclusion: A Message Beyond the Sentence

The Sean Diddy Combs sentenced verdict stands as a strong reminder that fame and influence do not exempt anyone from responsibility. The court’s decision sends a powerful message about protecting victims and enforcing justice.

When people remember Sean Diddy Combs, they will now also remember that he is a convicted felon sentenced to 50 months for his actions toward women — a moment that marks both a downfall and a turning point in his public image.
